A landmark for the Del Paso Heights neighborhood, Mutual Assistance Network began providing resources and activities from the Firehouse Community Center in 2000 and was later acquisitioned from the City of Sacramento in 2004. Running several different parenting classes, activities for youth and families, resources and services, the Firehouse offers:
Make Parenting A Pleasure- A weekly workshop that focuses on effective and positive parenting techniques that allow parents to learn “tips and tricks” on how to communicate more effectively.
A Certificate of Completion award provided at the end of this workshop which meets Sacramento County Child Welfare Services requirements.
Nurturing Parenting Program- Group-Based Parenting Education Workshop in English, recognized by Sacramento County Child Protective Services as approved parenting classes for parents with children ages zero (pregnant) to 17-years old.
Public computer lab- Free internet Access. Job search, build your resume, check your emails or web search. Printing is just 10 cents per page. Monday 12pm to 6 pm, Tuesday– Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturdays 10am –1:30 pm
Pediatric CPR/First aid- A class offered monthly to individuals interested in learning the skills and techniques. Ideal for Parents, Guardians, Caregivers and babysitters, this class is offered for $20, a fraction of the normal cost. Participants receive their certification card.
Women and children’s self defense class- This is a FREE hands on workshop that is specifically developed to educate and empower women and children ages 10years and up.
Rhythm & Grooves- An instructional dance class for youth 8-12 years of age, focused on teaching some of the latest dance crazes, principles of choreography and encourages self expression through movement creation.
Circle time- A play group for families with children 0-5, including storytelling, singing and crafts.
“Kid Tough” Krav Maga- Taught by the professionals from King Krav Maga, youth ages 8-12 learn about discipline, awareness, confidence and physical fitness in this weekly 1 hour class. Class cost will be $10 for an 8 session series.
Family Movie night- A free event, open to clients and community residents. Held twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Friday from 5-7 pm. free popcorn.
WEAVE-Domestic Violence group - This FREE women’s group is held weekly and delivers a court and CPS approved domestic violence curriculum. This group is designed for building healthy supports with other women while learning of the cycle and impact of violence.
WEAVE-Domestic Violence Individual- Counseling: FREE one on one counseling and other services for men, women and children who have experienced domestic violence or have been sexually assaulted.
Teen Success- A teen support group for pregnant and parenting teens 17 years or younger, this group is for teens to socialize, discuss and exchange parenting information. A small stipend is given for attending this group.
This group meets every Thursday 3:30 pm –5:30 pm
Car Seat Safety, Helmet Safety, & Water Safety : Learn the correct way to protect your child in a vehicle, on a bike, or in the water.
Free Wi-Fi hot spot- Bring your own device, connect to our public network and relax while you work or play.
