With a big field, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, swimming pool and a recreation room, Johnston Community Center was once full of daily activity. Slowed by a bad economy and poor representation for the area, the city of Sacramento allowed Johnston Community Center to sit as wasted resource that families avoided.

In 2009 the Mutual Assistance Network took over operation Johnston Community Center and transformed it back to a bustling center. Starting with the Mutual Assistance Network’s popular youth programs, the Johnston

Community Center is now home to the following activities:

  • Youth Summer Camp: Enjoyed by over 75 youth each summer.
  • Recreation Camp: Available during the school year on days when Twin Rivers School District is not offering classes.
  • After-School Homework Assistance and Enrichment Program: Providing quality after-school programming for elementary age students.
  • Zumba: Offering fun exercise twice weekly.
  • Annual Harvest Festival: The Mutual Assistance Network’s signature event that provides a fun crafts and trick-or-treat event for over 4,000 people.
  • Del Paso Heights Youth Sports League: The game site for the soccer and baseball leagues.
  • Community Meetings and Events: The Johnston Community Center is available for rent by individuals or groups wanting to host activities. Call (916) 927-7694 for more information.
