Sacramento is known for having a large number of neighborhood parks, unfortunately many are not usable. The City of Sacramento does not maintain the parks in the Del Paso Heights area, leaving mowing and clean-up to organizations like the Mutual Assistance Network. This takes away a valuable resource, a social gathering location and a place were children can run and play.
Vacant Lots & Illegal Dumping
Del Paso Heights has a large number of vacant lots that attract illegal dumping. Filled with piles of garbage, old furniture and hazardous items, the lots are an everyday site for children walking to school and adults going to work. Sadly, the city seems to have forgotten about this area and the garbage remains for months, sometimes years before being removed.
Very Few Small Businesses
With very few privately owned businesses in the neighborhood, Del Paso Heights has almost no job opportunities or reason to come into the neighborhood. The Mutual Assistance Network is working to develop small businesses that cater to the interest of the residents create social gathering locations. Our first small business we developed is the Firehouse Produce Market.
