Jose Gutierrez

“Surrounding yourself with people that are genuinely interested in your success becomes much more important then you tend to realize. I was able to pull bits and pieces of life lessons from these mentors and strong-minded individuals and apply them to my life. They gave me hope, they gave me purpose, and they gave something to strive towards. I now feel obligated to give to others what was given to me.”

Jose Gutierrez was born and raised in Sacramento, but he “grew up” at Mutual Assistance Network. Jose started at MAN over 20 years ago as a youth mentee and is currently a member of the leadership team. Early in his time at MAN, Jose was a coordinator with MAN’s Youth Investment Center (YIC) program assisting with program development and implementation. Highlighted projects with the YIC include the youth leadership program camp, school site-based after school programs, a Teen Center, youth sports leagues, and enrichment activities for youth. After YIC, Jose played a large role in the beautification and repurposing of the Firehouse Community Center, Johnston Community Center, and the Robertson Community Center. In his current role, Jose works closely with neighborhood residents, MAN staff and partner organizations to ensure that MAN’s community centers are vibrant social hubs of activities and places for residents to gather in the neighborhoods in which they reside.
