Amber Busby

“I do this work because I see it as my responsibility to help bridge connections to similar resources and services that my family benefited from. Growing up in Pasadena , I watched my Grandmother, a young widow and a K-12 educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, be the only adult provider in a household of four. I have an understanding of personal sacrifice and the myriad of social constraints often stacked against Black and Brown communities. Therefore, I simply do not have a choice but to devote my life’s work to the community. Furthermore, MAN’s mission is so closely aligned to my personal values and I am inspired and honored every day to work alongside the most authentic, hard-working individuals.”

Originally a Southern California native, in 2014, Amber made Sacramento her home. As an African American boy-mom, first-generation college graduate, and daughter of a single mother, Amber understands the importance of access and connection to social services and opportunities as a means to break generational cycles of disparities. Amber is passionate about supporting families towards upward mobility and bridging gaps of inequities for the most marginalized communities. Advocating for African American children and youth is another key component of Amber’s life mission. Through her involvement with the Black Child Legacy Campaign and San Juan Unified School District committees, Amber supports and influences quality programming and policies that impact kids with a lens of equity. In her role current role with MAN, Amber seeks to develop a team of Parent Educators as they lead families on their journey of empowerment along MAN’s continuum of change. To recharge each week, Amber makes time to be with and soak in the love of her wonderful son and partner, try new recipes, and get plenty of sunshine taking in the beauty of nature that Sacramento offers.
